Bookbinding

Before we launched the website, there was paper. It’s nice to feel a book in your hands. Though we originally imagined Nimbus and Grum adventures to be bound more like an old comic book, they fit nicely in a short novel size format. We learned bookbinding techniques through trial, error, and AI. Some of our first ones were very rough, but still usable, and our latest bindings look like something you might pull off a library shelf.

ChatGPT has helped us with booklet folding tricks, adhesives, spine strengthening materials, layout and even printer selection. Lots of how these are done comes from suggestions AI provided for “archival grade” bindings. Fun bits like the integrated bookmarks, special insert pages, and stenciled glow paint we did ourselves, but AI helped them, go smoother. They are quite durable too.

We do not currently plan to have a print edition of the books through a mass production printer, but we like to keep a few copies on a shelf for keepsake. Many of our paper copies are full of editing notes, and are not up to date with current revisions, but they remind us of the work we put into them, and some of the changes we have made. At least one physical copy exists of every book we have completed.

Someday we hope to release a printed version of the books. That will only happen at a large scale if the website is successful, and people really show an interest in the stories. For now, to practice bookbinding, we occasionally make printed copies of the latest revisions or newest book to share with friends and family. If you are interested in owning a paper copy, contact us. Each book is made by hand so it may take a while to get, but good things are worth waiting for.

The printed books are not for sale yet, but will be as they are released and we set up appropriate monetization widgets on the site. Gearing up for that to happen with Book 3, we are excited to share our stories with the world.
